Blagaj is located 12 km in the South far from Mostar.It is situated on the river Buna whose spring is there.First documents on its existence come from 10th century when it was mentioned by the name Bona.It was capitol of Humska Land or Huma, the region that was called Herzegovina since the half of 15th century.There are still ruins of medieval town on the cliffs above the spring of Buna.blagaj was the residence of the rulers of Herzegovina,the most famous one was Herceg Stjepan .In 1465 Turks conquered Blagaj and took this fortified town over.
On the spring of the Buna river,close to the cave there is Tekija built by the end of 15th century.seperated and surrounded by the wall it has served for meditation,pray and education of dervuishas,religious men who have tended to the spiritual improvment, by centuries.
Huge sloping stone cliff that is above Tekija and water mill that is downstream of Tekija from its bosom, gives clear, cold spring of the biggest capacity in Europe to Blagaj and to whole region.This is the sight that makes nobody calm.

Žitomislić church is dedicated to the Annunciation of the Mother of God. In 1566 the Ottoman Empire, as represented by the kadija in Nevesinje, granted the Miloradović-Hrabren family a permit to build monastery at Žitomislić over the ruins of an older church. The monastery took more than forty years to complete with the first reference to monks at Žitomislić in 1606. The monastery boasted a highly artistic iconostasis, and housed a scriptorium of considerable activity and renown in its time. At the height of its existence the monastery was supported by large land holdings worked by the monks themselves.
